A minimalist pendant lamp, The Frame stands out with its unique design and symbolism. Consisting of two metal frames meeting intimately at a point, this lighting piece reflects the idea of human beings mastering their own destinies while being divinely protected. The smaller frame, representing the struggles of life, is naked, with no glass or fabric. It symbolizes the human struggle to face life alone. The attachment to the larger frame signifies the idea of protection, while the light at the top represents divine enlightenment.
The Frame is not only visually striking but also showcases exceptional craftsmanship. Handmade by skilled artisans in the old town of Cairo, Egypt, this lighting piece is made from metal, reflecting the hardness of life. Its dimensions, originally designed for a commercial building's 5-floor hallway, make it larger in scale than typical residential pendant lamps, measuring 500mm in width, 450mm in depth, and 800mm in height.
The project to create The Frame began in January 2015 and was completed in July 2015. The lighting piece was first used in a business building in Cairo, Egypt, where it added a touch of modernity and spirituality to the space.
Shosha Kamal's design process for The Frame involved extensive philosophical research. The objective was to explore the views of different faiths on the existence of a greater power and how this concept could be communicated through a minimalist design. Overcoming the challenge of maintaining the perfect balance and proportions, Kamal successfully translated the philosophical concept into a visually captivating lighting piece.
The Frame has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Frame's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its ability to provide fulfillment and positive feelings contribute to a better world.
With The Frame, Shosha Kamal has created a pendant lamp that goes beyond mere illumination. It serves as a reminder of the struggles and protection we encounter in life, while also symbolizing the divine enlightenment that guides us along the way.
